| The Shaman is…. |
|
a figure who exists both in time and outside it, a figure who observes the flowing circle that is the very essence of it. He wastes no energy on anxiety; he lives life as a sort of magic flight, and he knows that this is his battleground. The Shaman is in touch with every aspect of Creation: the trees, the seas, the animals, the stars in the sky… For the Shaman, all forms of life are inextricably linked together in a single fabric that is woven into shape on Mother Earth and in the infinity of space. He journeys through the mysteries of the Universe, amid parallel worlds; he knows that what we call “reality” is just one of these. For the Shaman, the Universe is an inexhaustible source of life and of divine energy, an interlocutor he communicates with as he gazes out into emptiness. This is how he learns to metamorphose to adapt to any situation. He knows the laws of “standing still”, unlike all those of us who rush around “getting things done” and think that “standing still” is akin to failure….. or at best a waste of time….. The Shaman moves in time with the Earth; he is under no spell, and the beat of his drum is a homage to every living organism. The Shaman is in tune with his mind; he knows how to think purposefully. He has the power to turn dreams to reality, and reality to dreams; he can converse with the clouds, metamorphose into rain; he can become an eagle; he can summon the wind. The Shaman can dance at the court of the Sun, and the energy of his movements heals and regenerates himself and others. The Shaman can smile at the entire Universe, because he has learned the concept of death within life, and this has taught him the art of freedom and the ability not to take himself too seriously. The Shaman shows us how to stay in touch with those states of conscience in which the soul can travel beyond space and time. The Shaman knows that immortality lies in breaking free from the shackles of our mind, in living both within time and outside of it, contemplating the flowing circle that is the very essence of it. He wastes no energy on anxiety; he lives life as a sort of magic flight, and he knows that this is his battleground. He has never lost the ability to gaze in wonder at what life has to offer, and every day this affectionate son addresses heartfelt thanks to Mother Earth and Father Sun for all the alluring beauty he sees before him. |
